About

In 2005, Tennessee was ranked among the unhealthiest states in America. Former Johnson City Mayors Jane Myron and Jenny Brock agreed this was unacceptable in our area and decided to make a change. They formed Up & At ‘Em, Inc. which is a board of involved and dedicated members of the community that want to make a change by bettering our local communities health first then inspiring others to spread the word for all to live a healthier life. Their first event was a health fair to promote healthy lifestyles. Then was formed, the Johnson City Turkey Trot. They decided to run and fellowship with others before enjoying Thanksgiving Day with family…not knowing roughly 700 participants would come join them that morning. 17 years later, we are still following the example that they set in place all those years ago except now we gather with over 4000 of our closest family and friends. The Johnson City Turkey Trot has coined the phrase, ‘The Place to be on Thanksgiving morning’ where many consider it a ‘family reunion’ instead of a 5k. The Up & At ‘Em committee is involved in several other local health driven projects/events and has given back over $200,000 to the community.
